MHS

29 Jun

It’s day two. And I’m feeling all tensed already.

I’m in a bureau whereby not only I can’t have fun with the juniors, I’m supposed to make them miserable.

Yes. Discipline unit.

Before this, I thought of going all strict and fierce cause to me, to control 300 students from various backgrounds, that’s the only way.

So, day 1, I was strict, fierce and plain annoying. I myself didn’t like the things I scold them for cause I was simply finding excuses to scold them.

Immediately, that evening, a few of them disliked me already. They were showing faces when I spoke or simply pass by.

One of them even complained straight to another PM.

I changed my method of approach later, not because I want them to like me. But it was just simply meaningless to me, for yelling at them over the wrong colour shoes they wear and all.

However, today, I was the bitch again.

This time, it was real anger.

They are so spoilt! They spend most of the time in an air conditioned room and yet can complained when told to practise cheers.

And the cheers they do, $@^%#$!!!

If other colleges were here, 3rd residents can start digging holes to bury themselves.

The guys were the soft ones, barely touching their thighs when they were actually supposed to hit them.

And know what, there was one time a girl actually lead the cheers.

Guys, come on!

Third already has this disadvantage for having a LOT of female students compared to other colleges so our cheers are usually not as loud if compared to let’s say, 7th or 11th.

Then again, probably they can’t go to DTC this year, and experience the feeling of being challenged by other colleges, that’s why the low spirit.

*sigh*

And another problem is I really like helping juniors out like this year, we have one junior who is pregnant.

I pay a lot of attention to her cause I really admire her courage and think she needs the attention too.

But a few PM’s came to me and reminded me I’m in discipline. I’m not supposed to do that. That’s the ‘kebajikan’s’ duty.

*sigh sigh sigh*

I feel so tensed now, really.

The only time I’m myself is during ‘slot kerohanian’. Slots for non-muslims when the muslims go for their prayer.

Luckily I still can take care of the lil’ ‘bananas’, so I’m still on par with the reason I applied to be a PM.

Let’s just hope things will get better in the next few days.

Wish me luck!

But really don’t like putting up a straight, angry, annoyed face all the time. Really spoil my mood. *sigh* Anyway, yup. Hopefully till then they won’t hate me so much they don’t feel like talking to me anymore. Haha.

Hehe. Yup. But I feel like I’m missing out when they are having fun with them. I really want to interact with the juniors. They are all so blur with everything and a few bananas already confessed that they feel out of place. I really want to ask them if they’re okay throughout the day but I can’t. Sad, right… I know how they feel. And sadly, there aren’t as many bananas this year compared to ours. Only 3 pure Chinese are bananas. The rest are ‘bumi’s’ of Sabah and Sarawak…

      • Belle June 29, 2009 at 10:17 pm #

that lil ah? i guess the no of ppl that came in also lesser than our year la… i think on saturday nite, you can take of mask all edi and be nice to them… you’ve got the whole year to get to know them… that’s how you got to know seniors ma… not during mhs also.. so yea.. dun worry la kay.. you’ll be able to help them when the time comes…

    • Xin Min June 29, 2009 at 9:42 pm #

Oh yah, this year no malam juara-juara cause of H1N1 ler.. They scared it’ll spread and all.. They are so paranoid they actually make us stay in college the whole week. Can’t even go other colleges to challenge them. Haha. Yup. Will rest when I can…

      • Belle June 29, 2009 at 10:23 pm #

serious ah? aiyo.. that’s like the highlight man.. haha.. but you guys can go challenge 4th at the basketball court.. LOL.. got bball team ah this year?? who’s taking our places.. lol..

      • Xin Min July 1, 2009 at 8:57 am #

Damn kesian rt.. No la, can’t even leave college, where can go challenge 4th.. Most we can do is compete cheers only cause both our colleges gather at our basketball courts..

      • Belle July 1, 2009 at 5:29 pm #

that’s what i’m saying la.. battle at the basketball courts cuz it’s separated by a fence… LOL… means no competitions for them like last time?? no fun la for them…

    haiyo…aunty..dun la so fierce…!!

I dunno bout u, but the orientation week in UM is one of the worst weeks of our lives. Imagine, some still emo…home sick..unsettled…lonely…sick…blur…bored…uncertain…etc

And if a PM scolds for no reason then i oso “bay syiok” la..but at least u “changed” ur methods dee la…but if they too much then u scold la,…wat to do…

I think helping that pregnant gal is a very kind thing to do…
don’t care wat the others say la…u have to be who u are…

I heard from the past years that the among the PMs are lots of politics and problems wan…so, no point pleasing them wan..just do wat is right…

    All the best ….

    • Xin Min July 1, 2009 at 8:53 am #

      ADRIAN!!!

Haha.. It’s one of the worst weeks but for some it’s one of the most memorable moments too. And it’s becoming more and more lenient over the years.. We don’t even make them sit under the sun now..

This time juniors memang some very pampered and too much. Spend their time in bilik sidang listen to taklimat complain back pain, boring, wanna go home, tired, yadda yadda.. So, we put in cheers slot for them. That also don’t want to do.. Yesterday had a so-called cheers battle with 7th and 4th. Goodness, we can hide our faces edi after this if they don’t do something to improve.

On the bright side, I think the bananas are quite well taken care of.. I still promote you eh. as the founder of Banana Club in CCC. =) Even when Ben came and talked to them he was talking about you.. Haha! Touched ehh??

Anyway, thanks a lot! All the best to you too! See you during convo!

    • Xin Min July 7, 2009 at 1:17 pm #

Haha.. Well.. I think I didn’t really did a great job at being Miss Discipline also.. Many juniors came up to me and told me that. Haha!

your post reminds me of my orientation back in unimas *counting fingers* like 4 years ago? ;p back then i was the rebelious one. i didn’t have proper formal wears, neither did i have a pir of formal leather shoes nor my hair was in the “right” colour! to top it all, to freight it from home was a REAL hassle, so i just hecked it and did what i thought was right at that time.

i recall this particular incident when we were going for the full dress formal rehearsal, i was stopped by this senior- okay! i was wearing my Adidas Country when everyone else were wearing their formal leather shoes and apparently, coloured hair was not allowed too!

he stopped me and asked “name and matric number pls” with a very annoyed look.

i was VERY annoyed by him too and replied “chelsea, 4387*”- i purposely answer in the manner as if i was a prisoner to be sacarstic.

then he asked “where are you from” and i said “KL”

he shaked his head and raised his eye-brows as if he had a problem with people from KL which really got on my nerves but i remained calm. “don’t you know you are NOT allowed to colour your hair? i want to see it black by tmr!” he said further (still clear in my memory) i was VERY furious after hearing that- not like you don’t know how much my hair-dos normally cost! and he expects me to colour it back just for that da*n ikrar ceremony???!!! i wanted to throw him the 4 letter word already.

so i said “hey! look! this is a university. what is important is NOT what comes out from the head but is what comes out from the brain!!!!” and stared co*k at him.

another senior who witnessed this came into the scene and took me a side. this senior was more helpful of course. he took me out of campus to get a new pair of shoes and hair-dye. LoLs

my point is, yes sister. i know exactly how bad it feels especially being the rebelious one myself. controlling a group of young adults is never easy. especially for those who are away from home, some even leaving home for the first time. however eventually they will know the REAL you and what a wonderful person you are! πŸ™‚ they might not understand it now because they are going through “another phase of growing up” themselves but i am sure after this they will appreciate orientation just like myself (though i still HATE that bloody senior who sounded me and later i found out he came from Sam Tet- which needs less explanation why he acts that way! LoLs) your juniors will remember orientation, and it will be the greatest highlight to them post convocation, really!

be strong, pull it through, do what you think is right and people will know eventually πŸ™‚ good luck in that and i can’t wait to see you home next week!
