Day Two & Three!

17 Feb

So this post is on Day 2 and 3 of CNY.

Day 3 at Ipoh

(2nd Day of CNY)

We started the day with some visiting.

Went to the temple, too to visit my grandmama and aunty.

Then we spent the whole day here!

It’s my mom’s cousin sister’s house where everyone from my Mom’s side (well almost) hangs out!

With the sisters.

#5. Mom & Fei

Both Mom and Fei were wearing something I picked for them. Nice right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, the typical bonding session was on again.

And this time, I was pretty lucky. ๐Ÿ™‚

Definitely the type of cards you’ll want to get in a BlackJack game. ๐Ÿ™‚

This little cutie was sitting next to me the whole time!

#7. Ryan!

Specially imported all the way from Johor! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then we had dinner there and some entertainment at night besides the usual bonding sessions!

#8. Tong tong

Extremely dangerous (to me) but kids seemed to love it – fireworks.

I am terrified of fireworks, seriously.

I remember when I was younger I would attempt to light it up but even before the fire touches it I would run far far away!

I guess all the commercials banning people from playing fireworks really work on me.

I don’t want to lose a finger or burn half my face. >.<

I ended up only taking pictures of my brave little cousins from afar. ๐Ÿ™‚

I personally love this picture! ๐Ÿ™‚

#11. Another brave cousin.

OMG scariest one of all. Those you see in Wong Fei Hong shows one!!

These seemed safer to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

But it bored little Tong Tong.

Well, managed to make this ‘little’ girl extremely happy though.

Day 4 at Ipoh

(3rd Day of CNY)

#16. Ipoh dry curry mee. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was complaining since the past few days about not having Ipoh food since we got back and what a waste it is.

Ipoh’s white coffee, Ipoh’s chicken hor fun, Ipoh’s taugeh, Ipoh’s curry laksa, etc etc.

So finally Dad brought us for some Ipoh style breakfast before leaving.

Ipoh’s cham is totally different from the ones we have here in Subang. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then we came back to Subang!

Home sweet home! ๐Ÿ™‚

Pre-CNY and Day One!

17 Feb

I’m back at Subang!!!

Okay, updates on the celebration back at Ipoh over the past few days.

Day 1 at Ipoh

(One day before CNY)

#1. Cup cakes!

I was home early so Mom and I worked on some cupcakes to be brought back to Ipoh for the relatives.

Mom was in-charged of the baking process, while I got the decoration on cupcakes done!

We reached Ipoh at about 7am, breakfast-ed then started our routine.

You see, everytime we go back Ipoh, we would visit certain relatives with this particular order.

Like after breakfast, we would visit my dad’s sister.

Then it’ll be my mom’s brother.

Meet Suki!

#3. Suki!!!

My uncle’s adorable doggy!

She sure caught our attention and made us all melt with her cute ‘stunts’!

Like when she knows you’ve got food in your hands, she’ll stand on her legs and follow you around, like this!

Cute right!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

After my uncle’s place, we would return to my dad’s brother’s place where we usually sleep at during CNY.

And what happens every year is that we will lay around with nothing to do while waiting for reunion dinner.

This year however, we found something else to do!

We (my sisters and I) went for nail art! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, now every one knows I’ve got wrinkled feet. :s

Anyways, it was certainly a nice thing to do that day or else we would all just sleep and waste time mindlessly.

Then it was reunion dinner, and after that it was just TV the whole night.

Don’t remember what were they laughing about. ;p

Day 2 at Ipoh

(1st Day of CNY)

Day started off early with the usual breakfast.

#7. Nasi Lemak

Then we all dressed up for lunch at my cousin’s place. ๐Ÿ™‚

My picture’s not there cause if I were to be placed in between my sisters like that, I would look seriously under-dressed. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Anyway, so we went to my cousin’s house.

We were among the earliest guests there so we camwhored a little around the house. ๐Ÿ™‚

#9. Pa with his 'siu lui yan' ๐Ÿ™‚

#11. Pa & his sister

Meet my nephews!!

Not nephews like my sister’s sons of course.

Aiden and Sharab are my cousin sister’s sons.

Super adorable and mischievious for kids their age!

Almost forgot to put this picture!!

My cousin made this obscene-looking but incredibly tasty snack!

It’s sausage wrapped with bacon.

I kept saying it looks so wrong but my cousin said I’m the one thinking the wrong things. -.-

Then the lion dance people came…

Where XinYi got quite luckyย  cause she managed to get the most (I don’t know what) vege thrown out by the lions.

Maybe this explains why she’s been winning quite a lot of money lately.

Then after that spent the day at my mom’s brother’s place.

I slept the whole afternoon and only woke up when it was about time for dinner.

For dinner, we had…

#18. Lou sang~~

Yup yup! For the good luck that it brings with it, apparently. ๐Ÿ™‚

And after dinner, we had the typical bonding sessions, as usual..

First it was Poker.

#20. Aunt & Cousin Ming Derk

Then we played this game called ‘High Low’.

The picture above shows how bad luck I was.

The way you play the game is that you place a bet if you think there’s a high chance in getting any cards in between the two cards you get.

So you see, I got 2 and Queen, so basically I’ll win if I get any card in between them, which is damn a lot right!!!

But I had to get an Ace and pay up instead!!!

I always get the oddest cards! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Like an Ace at times like this instead of BlackJack or Poker. T.T

But thank goodness I’m still winning just a few ringgits for now. Nyehehehe~

Okay, two days for now.

Day 2 of CNY has quite a lot of pictures so I’ll wrap it up in another post.

Ipoh Mali~

13 Feb

Hello from Ipoh!!!

Yeshhh, I’m back at my beloved hometown, birthplace, IPOH for the Chinese New Year.

I’m seriously excited about CNY this year, don’t know why maybe cause I bought quite many new clothes and can’t wait to officiate them!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, I know I haven’t been updating for too long, I’m gonna update everything that I’ve been up to now.

Watched ‘Drag Me to Hell’ with the room mates few days ago.

Lame show but enough to freak all three of us out like mad. -.-

It was the first phase of MAK.

Nothing much, just some performances at the Dewan Makan and some cocktail-party-like-thing after that.

#3. Guys in blue...

Chai and Pak Koon are some ‘big shots’ in the college, hence the same blue uniform. ๐Ÿ™‚

#4. Louise

#5. Elensha

With the room mates. ๐Ÿ™‚

#6. Ben

The theme that night was Garden, so everyone was either wearing white or green (according to the dress code).

Ben actually came with props as well!!

Ben oh ben… Unpredictable as always. ๐Ÿ™‚

The day after MAK, Chai, Elen, Louise and I went to the Curve.

#7. Us four.

We were there to grab some last minute CNY things and luckily Elen and Louise found what they want. ๐Ÿ™‚

Chai were not that lucky though so we went to pasar malam the next day.

No pictures cause it was too crowded and I don’t want to attract snatch-thieves’ attention.

After that, the Chinese Club had a be-earliered CNY reunion dinner.

This time, it’s at Yuen’s Steamboat. ๐Ÿ™‚

#8. Jin Long Yu family~

Last year I had fun receiving ang paus, this year I had some fun giving out ang paus.

#9. Old(er) generations of the Jin Long Yu

We even prepared a small lucky draw session in between!

The red packets are our hand made ang paus with personalized messages for each one of them.

Lucky draw prizes are mostly related to food, like Jacob’s biscuit, Tiger biscuits, Lychee drink, chocolates, etc etc. ๐Ÿ™‚

Of course, we weren’t the only ones there.

There were almost 120 people there that night, all from our college!

This is the Faculty of Economics gang. ๐Ÿ™‚ Not all are in this picture though. Some didn’t hear us shouting.

This is with random people who happened to be nearby! ๐Ÿ™‚

Entertainment aside, I had two weeks loaded with assignment due dates, presentations, tutorials and mid terms!!!

Not forgetting the water crisis in UM for almost 4 days. T.T

The connection was terrible at night, too hence the disappearance from here. Sorry!

But fear not, I’m on one week holiday!

I promise I will update as often as I can.

Happy Chinese New Year, people!

Of CNY Cookies!

1 Feb

So yea, I’m back at home for the long weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

And because apparently more people will be at home, Mom lined up quite some chores for this particular weekend!

I help out with putting up the CNY decorations at home. ๐Ÿ™‚

This one is voluntary cause I love decorating the house with CNY decos!

Somehow without the decos CNY just won’t be the same for my family. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then Sunday morning painted one of the walls in parent’s room with Fei and then after dinner, the women of Choongs were all gathered at the kitchen for the annual activity.

The one which I dread going through every single year.

To bake CNY cookies.

I just hate hate HATE baking this particular typeย ofย CNY cookie my Mom is famous for cause it’s really tedious!

#1. Preparing the dough

But this year I managed to fit in fun in between! Which is to take pictures!! ๐Ÿ™‚

So, the first step is of course to prepare the dough.

Then Mom will ‘break’ them into small pieces.

Then we got to make them into round round balls.

I don’t know what’s that process called. ๐Ÿ™‚

#5. Round round balls!

Then after that got to brush a layer of egg yolk and add a bit of almond on the top!

ย XinYi is specialized to do this part every year. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then into the oven the trays go and after about 30 minutes or so…

Tadaa!!! Hap tou sou fresh from the oven!!!

Another cookie Mom is going to make me help in baking in these few days…

#9. Chocolate chip cookies!

This, is something I don’t mind helping.

Not only because it’s one of my favourites, it’s simply because it’s less tedious.

After Mom prepares the dough, all I have to do is to put small pieces of it onto the trays!

No round round balls needed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Baking is testified to be extra super more fun when taking photos in between is added. ๐Ÿ™‚
